A novel service that offers 'free' aircraft tickets

Princess Tarfa

Colibra, a revolutionary flight compensation firm, is now offered for the first time to customers in the UAE with the ‘Fly Now, Pay if Okay' service, which enables travelers with legal UAE residency to book tickets and only pay if their aircraft arrives on schedule.

They should get the unique opportunity to be the first in the world to utilize the product's pilot version and put this innovative travel technology to the test.

The Colibra app promises that if a flight is canceled or delayed for more than three hours, travelers will not be charged for their aircraft tickets. Such service is completely free for app users, who can buy tickets up to 30 days in advance of departure (and arrival) and afterward pay the standard ticket fee if their flight arrives on time or within three hours of its planned departure.

Colibra lessens the burden of attempting to obtain reimbursement and returns from airlines by guaranteeing that travelers just pay for travels that are not delayed or canceled, saving its users hours of time and stress.

According to Kalojan Georgiev, CEO and Co-founder of Colibra, “the UAE has been ruling the aviation and tourist industries for the last several years, building a world-class attraction and leading travel hub in only a few decades.”

“Consequently, in the present situation, the UAE aviation industry has fought hard to maintain its image, with its primary airline already running 85 % of its pre-COVID network and flying to 120 destinations.

“With that stated, but with the current pandemic driving an increasing number of travelers to reschedule or curtail travel, we couldn't think of a more appropriate ecosystem in which to debut our service. Why pay in advance when Colibra is the solution to the future of travel? Sensible travelers would not have to risk cash-advance for a ticket; instead, they will download our app, book a trip, arrive at the airport, but only if the flight arrives on time and the experience was satisfactory will they be charged.”

Colibra works as follows: the passenger selects a flight, which should depart and arrive within 30 days.

Adds personal information - Colibra does not charge at the time of booking. Colibra charges the customer on arrival when everything goes well and the service is provided (the ticket price is not increased). In all other instances, the customer can travel for free.

Colibra has attracted subscribers from over 170 countries since its introduction in 2019 and is known as being one of the go-to applications for European travelers. The app has over 100,000 installations, 40,000 active users, and 50,000 recorded journeys. Colibra also was named the best travel app in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Cyprus, as well as in Greece, Romania, and Poland.

The company's reimbursement strategy was launched in 2019 in response to the difficulties airline passengers encountered when attempting to claim reimbursement for canceled or delayed flights. Colibra customers can get reimbursement for any flight that is canceled or delayed by even more than one hour by simply entering their flight information into the app before takeoff, regardless of the cause of the interruption.

Colibra is available for download on both AppStore and Google Play. ‘Pay If Everything Is OK' Tickets are now only available for flights departing and arriving within 30 days and can be purchased using the app.

Traditional airports would have no place in the future without sophisticated and smart technologies, emphasizing the fundamental requirement for airports of the future to improve safety and amenities equipped with smart devices, as per Major General Khalifa Ibrahim Al Saleis, Chief Executive Officer, Security Industry Regulatory Agency (SIRA).

In his keynote lecture on Future Technologies Enhancing Airport Security at the Global Airport Leaders Forum at the Dubai Airport Show 2021, he stated that Dubai airport is the world's busiest, with 89.1 million international passengers in 2019.

As per Airport Council International, there have been 8.8 billion passengers at global airports in 2018. The figure is predicted to rise to 19.7 billion by 2040. Because of the huge number of passengers, travel procedures must be streamlined while ensuring airport and passenger safety and security.

We are all aware that security emigration and health check processes, which cause considerable delays, are unavoidable.

Because the smart devices offered to cut long queues, waiting period, and reduction of queues of passport checks, security check, and duty-free and other outlets, smart airports represent the future of air travel.
