Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, head of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee, launched the Green Hydrogen project at Dubai's Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, establishing the Emirate as a sustainable energy leader.

The project, developed in conjunction with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Expo 2020 Dubai, and Siemens Energy, is the Middle East and North Africa's first solar-powered green hydrogen production facility.

"With this pilot project, DEWA hopes to show the creation of green hydrogen from solar electricity, and its storage and re-electrification." It is a method for buffering sustainable energy generation which may be used for both quick response applications and long-term retention. The factory was constructed to support upcoming applications and test facilities for hydrogen's various uses, including prospective mobility and industrial applications.

“DEWA already has investigated and produced a pilot project for green mobility using hydrogen that will be implemented in the coming years, in addition to a variety of research, business plans, and a prospective roadmap for hydrogen usage,” says the statement "DEWA's MD and CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said

"Expo 2020 congratulates everyone involved and hopes that this inventive idea will encourage many other inventive solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems.

"In far less than five months, we would celebrate these revolutionary partnerships, demonstrating the UAE's commitment to the SDGs and establishing a significant legacy which will have a beneficial impact beyond the site and the six months of Expo," said Reem Bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, minister of state for international cooperation and director-general of Expo 2020 Dubai.

"This historic Green Hydrogen Project emphasizes the necessity of collaboration in advancing breakthrough new renewable energy alternatives and addressing the grave threat posed by global climate change.

“As the Middle East and North Africa's first industrial-scale facility to manufacture green hydrogen, it is a significant milestone in the energy transition.” Dr. Christian Bruch, president, and CEO of Siemens Energy stated.
