Hotel occupancy in the UAE has reached 63%

According to the preliminary data published by the tourism sector, the UAE tourism sector started to rebound during the first quarter of the year 2021, with an average hotel occupancy rates throughout the country approaching upto 63%.

The average duration of stay in hotels rose to 27.6 % to 4.3 nights in the first quarter relative to the same time last year, with the month of March showing a 34 % rise in the number of hotel visitors compared to March last year.

In the comparison time, UAE nationals accounted for 25.6 % of total visitors (one million guests), with the month of March seeing a staggering rate of 112% increase in Emirati hotel guests relative to same month last year. Dubai was the most popular destination for Emiratis, followed by Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Sharjah.

Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and SMEs and Chairman of the Emirates Tourism Council, praised the UAE domestic tourism sectors for its outstanding results and praising the steadfast efforts of numerous local departments involved in positioning local destinations as a favorite place for Emiratis and the residents alike.

“The UAE continues to strengthen its prized spot on the global tourism scene, with domestic tourism already proving to be a major driver for economic growth and a crucial contributor to GDP in the execution of the UAE's wise leadership's directives,” the minister said.
