The UAE Special Olympics and Modon Properties (Modon) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish sporting practices and competitions for People with Determination with intellectual disabilities in Abu Dhabi.

The MoU aims to create a working relationship between the two sides, which will include information sharing about athletic events for People with Determination with learning difficulties.

Through this collaboration, the two firms will carry out collaborative initiatives campaigns, and activities at Modon's most recent project, Hudayriyat Leisure and Entertainment District ensuring People with Determination with learning disabilities and their families have a one-of-a-kind experience at various leisure and sports venues.

Modon's cooperation comes from their mission and continuing efforts to create a range of options for People of Determination to ensure greater and equitable interactions are given and appreciated.

“We consistently aim to build initiatives of the highest standards that affirm our contribution to the welfare of the city and promoting an inclusive atmosphere for People of Determination,” Modon Properties said in response to the signing. We aim forth to host a variety of cultural events and programs to inspire People with Determination in collaboration with Special Olympics UAE.

“As we move against this aim, we stay committed to helping Abu Dhabi in becoming an internationally respected leader in empowering and inspiring individuals with disabilities in the local community,” Modon said.

Talal Al Hashimi, National Director of Special Olympics UAE, also elaborated on the event, saying, "The relationship with Modon began with the effective implementation of the Special Olympics UAE Learn to Cycle program towards the end of 2020."

“This community initiative, held on the beautiful Al Hudayriyat Island, seeks to teach People with Determination with learning disabilities an important life skill.”

“Today, we are delighted to announce a significant extension of this relationship that includes joint organizing and hosting of multiple sporting activities which always enhance the lives of People of Determination and inspire them to participate in sports in few of the finest infrastructure in Abu Dhabi's Capital."

“The MoU is already in sync with Abu Dhabi's Strategy for People of Determination, introduced in 2020 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Chairman of the Executive Council,” said Dr. Bushra Al Mulla, Executive Director of the Community Development Sector at the Department of Community Development (DCD).

The plan seeks to build an interconnected society that strengthens People with Determination and guarantees fair access to rights, services, and opportunities throughout all stages of life.

Concerning one of the strategy's main pillars, 'Universal Participation,' the MoU will promote access to sports programs and emphasize the importance of an equitable sports atmosphere for People of Determination and the part it plays in improving their standard of life.

As part of the deal, Special Olympics UAE will use the infrastructure at Hudayriyat Leisure and Entertainment District to organize meetings youth sporting programs, and athletic activities during the year.

Modon would provide Special Olympics UAE and People of Determination with unparalleled facilities for scheduled events at 321Sports and Hudayriyat Courts, like football courts, outdoor tennis courts, basketball courts, badminton courts, a 5K and 10K cycling track, and Hudayriyat Beach for swimming tournaments, duathlons, and triathlons.
