According to the World Digital Competitiveness Yearbook 2020 published by the International Institute for Management Growth, Abu Dhabi is rated 11th in the Global Technology Index (IMD). The emirate has progressed in several digital transformation indices, including Cyber Security, Public-Private Partnerships, and Technology Regulatory Framework, where it is ranked fifth.

The Capital also placed sixth in the Digital/Technological Skills index, eighth in the Technological Framework index, ninth in the use of Big Data and Analytics index, and 12th in the IT Integration index globally.

Chairman of the Department of Government Support – Abu Dhabi (DGS), Ali Rashid Al Ketbi, shared his satisfaction with the progress that has been made. “These results have been achieved under the guidance of the Higher Committee of Digital Government as part of its efforts to introduce a governance structure across the Abu Dhabi Government, make fundamental changes in the definition of government services, and transition to a digital future,” says the study.

This achievement, as per Fahed Salem Alkayyoomi, DGS undersecretary, will provide a strong impetus for the government to continue its efforts to achieve the common goal of providing reliable, sustainable, and secure digital services across the emirate. “Abu Dhabi is moving forward with an optimistic vision that reinforces a culture of excellence in society. It aims of being at the forefront of global cities in terms of competitiveness at different levels and a range of fields relevant to digital transformation,” he continued.

“We are thrilled with the outcome obtained by the Abu Dhabi Emirate in the Global Technology Index. They positively reflect the digital transformation efforts and affirm the emirate's leading role in global competitiveness indices,” said Mohamed Abdelhameed Al Askar, director-general of the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA).
