Transport sector Seeing the novelty of the projects and the progress of the economic and social steps in the GCC countries, the strategies of communication and transportation development have been followed each other till the roads networks in the GCC countries surpassed in its streaming the international ones. Also it enjoys an advanced transportation network, and a numerous traveling air, sea and land cargo passages. The projects under execution in transportation sector in the GCC countries are about 2.3$ trillion, according to the statistics of the General Secretariat of the GCC, the number of the collective paved roads in the GCC countries for the year 2004 have reached 714.646 km, as Saudi Arabia got biggest number with 44.096 km compared to 36581 km in the year 1996, Oman 14.684 km compared to 6.591 km, Kuwait 5.720 km compared to 4.953 km, Bahrain 8.873 km compared to 2.284 km, UAE 4.091 km compared to 3582 km. As for the passengers’ movement through the UAE airports, it has been reached about 28.943 for the year 2004 compared to 10.097 passenger for the year 1996, Bahrain 5144 for the year 2004 compared to 3.406 for the year 1996k Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 25.535 compared to 25.551, Oman 3.461 compared to 2.348, Qatar 7.073 compared to 2.567, Kuwait 5.109 compared to 3.730. |
