Business & Finance Club - Singapore: Saudi-Arabia is sending its first female athlete to the Equestrian competition at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore.
Well, that's a first. Saudi-Arabia is sending its first female athlete to the Equestrian competition at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore, the 16 year old Delma (Dilma? Dalma? :)) Muhsin. How highly unusual for Saudi-Arabia, known for its strict traditional ways regarding women. Did you know what Saudi women aren't allowed to drive a car except in the rural areas? They must be thinking that us women can't do much damage there In 2008, Saudi women's rights activists have posted on the web a video of a woman driving, in protest at the ban on female drivers in the kingdom. In the same year, the Saudi government announced that it is going to lift the ban, explaining that if girls are allowed to go to school (only since the 1960s) , they are capable to function behind the wheel as well. But in 2009, police in Mecca arrested a woman for driving, so I guess they're still thinking about it. Damn, people, my computer thinks faster , and that's saying something! But hey, at least now the Saudi women are officially allowed to drive a horse:) That's what I call progress!
