The General Directorate for Narcotics Control seized 14 million Captagon amphetamine pills concealed within a shipment of iron plates from Lebanon.

The General Directorate for Narcotics Control foiled an effort to import 14 million Captagon amphetamine pills disguised within a shipment of iron plates from Lebanon, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

At the Islamic port of Jeddah, the shipment had been confiscated in cooperation with the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority.

According to the directorate, a citizen was caught in the Riyadh region for his active participation in the smuggling operation.

In April, Saudi Arabia explicitly banned the import of Lebanese fruits and vegetables in response to an upsurge in narcotics smuggling from Beirut.

The decision was made after Saudi Customs intercepted an effort to smuggle over 5 million Captagon tablets hidden within fruit imported from Lebanon.
