Business & Finance Club - Qatar : A report issued by a subsidiary of the Arab League has said Qatar’s economy has performed well in spite of the repercussions of the global financial crisis.
The Third Arab Industrial report issued by the Arab Organisation for Industrial Development and Mining of the Arab League said that Qatar had succeeded in developing strategic plans for the exploitation of its natural resources by adopting an integrated investment programme for oil, gas and petrochemical industry, gas-to-liquid transformation and building the largest fleet of vessels to transport Qatari gas to global markets, in addition to diversifying its economic base.
The report, which reviews the development of industry in the Arab countries from 2008 to 2009 with forecasts for 2010, called Qatar’s achievements in the energy sector “remarkable”, saying that Qatar’s gas production had jumped from 3bn cubic feet in 2002 to 11bn cubic feet at the end of last year.
The report forecast that Qatar would register the highest rate of real GDP growth in the region in 2010 and will be among the highest growth rates in the world.
