Business & Finance Club - Manama : Bahrain is to embark on an ambitious scheme to build a new industrial city.
The plan was yesterday scrutinised as His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Gudaibiya Palace.
Funds have already been earmarked to finance feasibility studies and ensure the viability of the proposed city.
The session highlighted different facets of the project, particularly proposed sites, technical requirements and financial needs. It studied a recommendation in this regard submitted by the ministerial committee for financial and economic affairs. An initial configuration of the city will be drawn up in co-operation with ministries and specialised departments.
'The proposed city will take into account, particularly, the protection of the environment, in addition to security, services and other amenities,' Cabinet Affairs Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatala Al Khalifa said.
The Industry and Commerce Ministry has also been instructed to rehabilitate all the proposed sites for use in future industrial projects.
The session discussed proposed mechanisms to bolster development plans to meet present and future needs. It stressed the importance of giving full priority to providing the necessary land and ensuring the expansion of the industrial base. |
