Business & Finance Club Magazine - Transportation Sector - Kuwait -- Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works revealed that part of the Jahra Road project from the historic Jahra Gate (located in the roundabout next to Sheraton Hotel) to the UN Roundabout, is set to include 21 km of roads and intersections, and 17.700 km of flyovers formed by 8,500 ready-made concrete blocks.

The section, part of a bigger project linked to the First Ring Part, located in western Kuwait City, will be worth a total KD 264.7 million ($912.6 million), Assistant Undersecretary for Road Engineering Affairs Hussain Mansour said on Saturday.

It will require a completion period of up to five years conducted through five phases, he added.

The project in some sections will require five levels including a tunnel, a ground level road, a highway and a high bridge with two levels above. The narrowness of the flyover has a limited number of exits to certain areas.

Mansour continued to mention further details of the project’s infrastructure like 1,619 metres of box-like concrete slabs, 33,00m of water pipes, 7,550m of sewers, 22,000m of electric and high voltage cables and 11,225m of phone lines.

The project is also set to include decorative plants; 1,708 palm trees, 11,522 trees and 119,000 bulbs and shrubs covering a length of 74,000m.

A location close to the construction site will be used to prepare the ready-made concrete blocks, with a storage capacity of up to 1,152 blocks.

Mansour compared the project’s construction method of pre-mastered building to another two ventures in Hong Kong (Lai Chi Kok Road) and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai Metro Line).

The Ministry of Public Works plans to begin construction of the giant project in July this year.
