“Polio inoculation efforts took place in parts of Jeddah. Over the past days we covered the Al-Nuzla and Gholail districts in the southern and eastern parts of Jeddah, and those districts toward the east of Jeddah’s Expressway,” said Dr. Noha Dashash, assistant director for medical affairs.
April marked the end of the five-day national campaign against polio. Some 31,570 children were vaccinated against the disease on the last day of the campaign.
“The number represented only 14.7 percent of the overall number of children below the age of five who were vaccinated. We were able to vaccinate around 18 to 20 percent of the region’s children every day,” said Dr. Dashash.
She added that by the end of the campaign 99.3 percent of children in the city had been vaccinated against polio.
“I urge families who have not vaccinated their children to go to their nearest health center and get them vaccinated,” she said.
