Business & Finance Club Magazine - Industrial Sector - Oman - The Al-Dakhiliyah Water Supply Project was inaugurated in Wilayat of Sumail during a ceremony held under the auspices of Sayyid Asa'd bin Tariq bin Taimour al Said in the presence of ministers, advisers, undersecretaries and dignitaries of the Al-Dakhiliyah Region. The potable water is supplied to the project from Barka water desalination plant.
Mohammed bin Abdullah al Mahrouqi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) said that the 288 km project supplies 25 million gallons of water daily to the Al-Dakhiliyah Region. The total cost of the project stood at RO. 89.889,561 million, he added.
In his speech, al Mahrouqi pointed out that the water supply line starts from Barka Water Desalination Plant and ends in Bidbid passing through the Wilayats of Sumail, Izki, Nizwa, Manah, Bahla and Al Hamra. PAEW has taken all the measures to ensure the cleanliness and intact of the pipelines, stations and main tankers tracks before pumping the water to consumers, he furthered.
"The Al-Dakhiliyah Water Supply Project is one of PAEW's strategic projects which is envisaged to supply the region with it's daily needs of water, particularly it witnesses growing trade activities in the urbanization, economic, tourism and trade domains. In addition, the project will enhance the government's plans to implement water supply projects in various parts of the Sultanate,' he said.
Al Mahrouqi pointed out that the project comprises three stations for boosting and pumping water, additional three rehabilitated stations, sixteen water filling stations and sixteen water tankers with the capacity of 1500 to 10,000 cubic meter.
Currently Adam Water Supply Project is underway which includes expansion of a major 60 km long water supply line from Barka Water Desalination Plant to citizens' households. It also comprises tankers of a 3500 and a 1500 cubic meter capacity respectively, two water filling stations to supply water to nearby rural populations. Al Jabel Al Akhdhar Water Supply Project has also been initiated. It includes pump- enhancing stations, depressurizer tankers, distribution tankers, water supply and distribution networks, remote-control systems, administration building and water samples analysis laboratory, he added.
PAEW is in the process of awarding Bahla Water Supply Project after conducting related consultation studies. The Tender Board has recently completed the formalities for awarding the Sumail Water Supply Project.

Sayyid Asa'd bin Tariq bin Taimur al Said cited the Al-Dakhiliyah Water Supply Project as vital and important government project that seeks to avail water all over the Sultanate.
In a statement, Sayyid Asa'd said that supplying water being a vital source of life to citizens, as part of the Sultanate's strategies as is the case with electricity and other related matters. We are committed to implement His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in Said' plans and directives to avail such services to every part in the Sultanate.
For his part, Dr. Zahir bin Khalid al Sulaimani, Director General of Projects at PAEW said that the Al-Dakhiliyah Water Supply Project is important in the aftermath of the draughts which hit the Al-Dakhiliyah Region. The project avails water to all the Wilayats in the Al-Dakhiliyah Region, he added.
"The project which took several years to implement covered the Wilayats of Sumail and Bidbid in the first place. Today the project is over. Al Jabel Al Akhdhar Water Supply Project is underway," he pointed out.
"There is a study to expand Nizwa Water Networks to include the Niyabat of Barkat Al Mouz, Tanuf and the newly built residential quarters. Bidding formalities are underway on Bahla Water Supply Networks," he added.
The chief guest then unveiled the plaque of the project, toured the project and was briefed on the project and phases and the services it avails to citizens in the Al-Dakhiliyah Region. Then he inaugurated the plant officially. |
