His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, passed legislation creating the Dubai Digital Authority (DDA).

The DDA will be Dubai's official authority in charge of all issues relating to information technology, data, smart and digital transformation, and information security, as per the new legislation.

The new body would govern the Smart Dubai Department, the Smart Dubai Government, the Dubai Data Establishment, the Dubai Electronic Security Center, and the Dubai Statistics Center.

The DDA has its judicial character and also some legal authority.

Sheikh Mohammed stated that the foundation of the Dubai Digital Authority aims to even further improve Dubai's smart and digital transformation, offering high-level digital services towards both consumers and companies, and uphold the highest cybersecurity standards.

Sheikh Mohammed underlined that the DDA's primary goals are to speed up technical progress and embrace the most recent ICT breakthroughs that promote social and economic success and raise people's standards of living.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid went on to say, "Our objective in establishing the Dubai Digital Authority is to achieve social and economic advantages. Our digital revolution started 20 years ago, our digital economy is already worth Dhs100 billion, and we aspire to increase the contribution of the digital industry within the next two years.”

“We want to increase the quality of digital services and are using them to better serve the public across all sectors,” he says.

The Authority's goals usually involve helping to revive Dubai's economy by promoting digital transformation in all government organizations and increasing efficiency and performance by allowing government agencies to automate their labor, operations, and services.

The DDA is also in charge of formulating, authorizing and administering policies and initiatives to further the growth of this essential sector.

The DDA is tasked with driving the government's digital transformation in important areas such as government services, shared government solutions, data management, cybersecurity, and ecosystem and governance.

Sheikh Mohammed also appointed Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori as Director-General of the Dubai Digital Authority through a proclamation.
