Data hub launched by Google in Poland

Princess Tarfa

Google opened a new cloud data centre in Warsaw, Poland on Wednesday. It has been backed up with a massive investment of nearly $2.7 billion (1.7 billion euros).

The centre is the first and unique of its kind in the whole Central and Eastern Europe by the US tech giant. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki praised the new facility. He further claimed that it would guarantee better customer service both from private and public institutions. Along with that, it will also provide additional protection because the data would be kept entirely in Poland for better security purposes.

"We strongly believe that the current Google Cloud area will help in the fast recovery from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and will help all of us lead a flourishing digital economy in Poland and the neighboring countries as well," Magdalena Dziewguc, Google Cloud's country manager, confirmed further in a statement.

US corporations have spent about $6 billion in Poland. This data is according to the US embassy charge d'affaires Bix Aliu, excluding what Google is adding. Last year the coronavirus crisis sent Poland's economy into a severe recession for the very first time since the historic time when communism collapsed three decades ago. In spite of all the hurdles, the Poland’s economy is expected to make a full bounce back soon.
