Two lives were lost and dozens were hurt when the building at a West Bank synagogue collapsed

Two Israeli citizens were dear and more than 150 were injured when a terraced seating framework fell at a West Bank synagogue during the prayers for Shavuot, a significant Jewish holiday.

When the incident happened on Sunday evening, the bleacher of the unfinished structure was full of ultra-Orthodox devotees.

Paramedics declared the dead includes a man in his 50s and a 12-year-old kid, as per a spokeswoman for Magen David Adom, Israel's national medical emergency service.

Additional 157 individuals were treated for injuries, as the military search and rescue teams and army helicopters dispatched to transport patients from Givat Zeev, a settlement outside Jerusalem, to a hospital.

The collapse happened only weeks after 45 ultra-Orthodox Jews were killed in a stampede at a religious event in northern Israel, sparking worldwide condemnation of the country's politically influential ultra-Orthodox minority's broad sovereignty.

The mayor of Givat Zeev stated that the structure was incomplete and hazardous and that prior pleas for action had been disregarded by the police.

The accident, as per Jerusalem police director Doron Turgeman, is indeed a case of "carelessness" and will most likely result in arrests, while Deddi Simhi, head of Israel Fire and Rescue, informed Israel's Channel 12: "This structure is still under construction. It does not even have a license to be inhabited, let alone host activities."

The structure seemed to be unfinished on television images from the site, with bare concrete and boards showing.

Many ultra-Orthodox groups in Israel publicly violated coronavirus prohibitions last year, resulting in high breakout rates in their groups and infuriating the general population.
