UAE, Pakistan oaths to enhance economic, investment relations

Dr. Syed Qaiser Anis, President of the Pakistan Business Professional Council — Abu Dhabi (PBPC), was received by Helal Mohammed Al Hameli, Deputy Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, at the Chamber's Tower in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Hadi Shahid, a pioneer member of the PBPC, Mohammed Eqbal Naseem, Vice President of the PBPC, and Sadia Rehan, a PBPC Board Member.

The meeting is a follow-up to past ones held by both sides to explore ways to improve trade and investment relations between companies in their respective countries. During the conference, the President of the PBPC praised the two countries' close and deep relations, emphasizing the requirement to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries and capitalize on potential investment prospects for companies in both countries.

Dr. Anis highlighted the importance of bilateral discussions in exchanging information, exchanging experiences, identifying the problems that Pakistani entrepreneurs face, and identifying potential solutions that will help them resolve those obstacles.

The Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Chamber, for his part, welcomed the PBPC representatives and appreciated their visit, which he said would boost the emirate's business climate by increasing cooperation between the Abu Dhabi Chamber and Pakistani investors.

Al Hameli stated that the Chamber is ready to provide the resources required to enhance the bilateral relationship between the two nations and to reactivate contact channels between the appropriate authorities.

Dr. Mohammed Shukri Mohammed Saeed, Chairman of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Investment Authority, and Ahmed Al Dhaheri, the UAE Consul General in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, conducted a video conference with Mohammed Hilal Al Mheiri recently.

They explored ways to improve economic and business ties between Abu Dhabi and the Kurdistan Region's business sectors.

Dr. Shukri praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and the UAE Diplomat in the Kurdistan Region in arranging this conference to explore business opportunities available to UAE companies in the region that would create new perspectives for bilateral economic cooperation on several levels.

Dr. Shukri spoke at the meeting about the most relevant sectors covered by the new investment law which is focused on the diversification of income streams at multiple levels. He noted that the new plan divides the area into 11 industrial zones and offers more than 1,000 promising investment opportunities, noting that the industrial sector is one of Iraqi Kurdistan's most significant economic tributaries, supplying more than 90% of Iraq's steel requirements and many other goods and services.

Dr. Saeed also stated that the new investment law intends to grow the infrastructure sector, including highways, services, and railways, and also the tourism sector, by leveraging the region's picturesque geographical nature, and also with the help of abundant large swaths of fertile land appropriate for Emirati agricultural investment.

Al Muheiri, for his part, thanked the UAE Consul General for his tireless efforts to improve economic and trade cooperation between the UAE and the Kurdistan Region's business communities.
