On Monday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Hady Amr, the visiting US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Israel and Palestinian Affairs.

During the discussion, President Abbas updated the US envoy on the perilous situation in Jerusalem, with an emphasis on police and settlers attacks and forced expulsions, settler mob violence, and Israel's ongoing hostility on Gaza, which has slaughtered 200 people, injured over 1300 others, and uprooted thousands more, while holding the Israeli government accountable, according to Wafa, a Palestinian news agency.

The Palestinian president emphasized the necessity for the US administration to intervene to prohibit Israeli hostility and escalation everywhere and to launch efforts aimed at achieving a political solution centered on UN resolutions and international law while reaffirming that removing the military invasion of Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, is a way to achieve peace and stability.

Abbas underlined the Palestinian side's commitment to work with the Quartet to achieve an equitable and comprehensive peace that ensures the Palestinian people's intrinsic rights to independence and freedom, as recognized in international law.

He thanked US President Joe Biden's administration for restoring US help to the Palestinian people, particularly through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

Amr, the US ambassador, highlighted the importance of 'de-escalating the scenario and stated that Biden's administration was taking joint action with all other groups to achieve this goal.

He reaffirmed the US administration's determination to achieve peace and providing equal opportunity for Palestinians and Israelis equally to live in dignity, security, and prosperity while stressing the need of taking steps toward a two-state solution.
