His Majesty The cornerstone of the Clock Tower Square in Kalba City was laid on Saturday by Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The Clock Tower Square is part of the region's public services and infrastructure growth and tourism ventures.
The Ruler of Sharjah was updated on the construction drilling procedures at the site and learned about the engineering plans and maps for the square and the clock tower from Engineer Salah Bin Butti Al Muhairi, Adviser of Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey.
When completed, the Clock Tower Square will be one of the city's most distinguishing characteristics. The expansion and modification of the square's diameter to 104 meters, and the construction of a 42-meter-high clock tower on a 668-square-meter site, with a clock in the middle top of the tower fixed in such a way that it is visible from all corners of the city.
The tower would also have a variety of services and protected transportation corridors that are appropriate for all of society's needs. A special tunnel leading to the clock tower and a lift will provide safe and secure access to the tower's various floors.
A twelve-valve fountain will be installed in the square's middle, reflecting the hour hand of the clock, with the other small valves representing the minute hand. The clock will be a special and distinguishing feature of the square, which will also have four additional valves parallel to Al Wahda Street.
Visitors to the tower will be able to see the beautiful natural scenery and landmark views surrounding the square, which will be surrounded by 2,100 square meters of green space, and parking spaces along Corniche Street. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, during his visit, was briefed on the construction of Al Wahda Street, which connects the road from the Square and Clock Tower to Kalba Corniche Street.
The project entails constructing a 4,200-meter-long road with a double-lane in each direction, a service road, and side parking for cars, to improve traffic safety and promote vehicle mobility in both directions. The project also involves adding a service road and side parking lots to the Clock Tower Square Street to facilitate the movement of visitors and road users to the tower, and increasing the capacity of the street to three lanes to facilitate the movement of visitors and road users to the tower.
Sheikh Sultan was familiar with the building operations that would be carried out for the Al Wahda Street development scheme, and all additional amenities such as road lighting and pedestrian and passers-by safety procedures. Sheikh Saeed Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Chief of Sharjah Ruler's Office in Khorfakkan; Sheikh Haitham Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Ruler's Office in Kalba, and several senior officials and dignitaries, were present at the inauguration.
His Majesty Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi opened the Kalba Beach Corniche on Friday afternoon, the main development project designed to improve the emirate's public facilities for residents, tourists, and beachgoers.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, who opened the curtain and cut the traditional ribbon to mark the project's opening, toured the 9.5-kilometer-long Corniche, which offers a range of appealing facilities and services, against the backdrop of folkloric artistic performances by the Sharjah National Troupe.
The Corniche is complemented by a 7.6-kilometer-long and 4-meter-wide rubber running track, shaded sea-facing seats, and a pedestrian crossing, and 50-cm-thick clean and white sand totaling 95,000 cubic meters. More than 1,500 trees planted along the beach to complement its scenic beauty and provide increased picnic space for tourists.
