How Sandi Morris Navigated Through the Time of Postponed Olympics

Princess Tarfa

During the high time of career and when it is only once in 4 years holding the aspirations back is really tough to digest. It is the harsh reality of all athletes who are hopeful to compete at Olympics last year and for the first ever time, it was postponed.

Sandi Morris, a US pole vault silver medalist from the 2016 Rio Olympics, said, “It was really tough to absorb but it is it! It’s the feel like sitting in purgatory mode for the entire year.” Almost a year of postponement of Tokyo Olympics 2020, there is a new goal on sight! With much needed safety measures and restrictions in place the Olympics is all about to commence from 23rd July this year.

Morris keeps on adding, “That with a sense of normalcy, I have started my training to achieve something rather than normal training or training with no destination or competition in focus.”

“Although it is quite different, but last March we all felt quite hopeless.” Said by Morris! For her it’s a golden chance for recovering from niggling shin injuries and acing the techniques. However, her husband, Tyrone Smith, a three-time Olympic long jumper who is now near to call off the athletic career, found this postponement a introspection period.

Being the MBA-student from University of Texas at Austin, Smith goes on saying, “I have experienced mild depression after the announcement as I was fully prepared for this last hurrah and make sacrifices at the time of my life when those were made to harder.”

He also adds, “It was really disheartening but I am taking some guts and soul-searching me for deciding whether I will be able to continue a more year or not!”
