Violation of COVID-19 regulations leads to the arrest of 28 people in Asir.

Dozens of individuals have also been detained in the Asir area for breaking isolation and quarantine regulations, according to the Saudi Press Agency, citing Lt. Col. Zaid Al-Dabbash, the region's media spokesperson.

According to a police spokeswoman, 28 people have been arrested for disobeying the orders after being verified to be contaminated with COVID-19.

Several of the accused, who had recently returned from overseas, had breached institutional quarantine rules, he noted.

According to the spokeswoman, all preliminary legal processes have been initiated against them to transfer them to the appropriate authorities for disciplinary measures.

In Saudi Arabia, violators of COVID-19 quarantine measures face a penalty of up to SR200,000 and up to two years in prison or both.

If the infraction is committed again, the punishment is doubled.

If the violation is a foreigner, he or she faces expulsion from Saudi Arabia and a lifetime entrance restriction if the penalty is pronounced on him or she is carried out.
