Expo 2020 will inspire people to make changes that will create a more sustainable future

Austria is pleased to participate in Expo 2020 Dubai. We think that this Expo will inspire change, promote innovation, and contribute to the creation of a more sustainable future. Expo 2020 will act as a global stage for businesses, research institutes, universities, and a multitude of other organizations. Austria is determined to make a positive contribution towards a more sustainable future.

During an exclusive interview with Gulf Today, Austrian Commissioner-General Beatrix Karl revealed this.

“We envision our pavilion as a gathering place for inventive and creative minds, with possibilities for individuals to connect through a range of events.”

“Our pavilion will provide a warm greeting to the general public while simultaneously serving as a platform for business executives, politicians, artists, academics, and many others to connect and collaborate.” The Austrian contribution "Austria makes sense" demonstrates a comprehensive approach to unite people, technology, and the environment outstandingly. Climate protection and technology work in tandem and complement one another in a case. The eye-catching, sustainably planned pavilion mixes traditional building methods - inspired by Arabian wind towers - with cutting-edge technology, acting as an interactive exhibit for Austria's inventive strength and variety - a sensory experience for everybody.

“Austria is regarded across the globe as a culturally rich country with a high level of living. With our cooperation, we like to add a few significant - and maybe novel - pieces to this image.”

Through digitization, digital transformation, and digital innovation, Austria has the opportunity to position itself as a worldwide innovation leader at EXPO 2020 Dubai.

It also provides a once-in-a-lifetime chance to showcase our expertise and capabilities in sectors like new technology, education, e-government, life sciences, security devices, particularly cyber-security, and innovative transportation systems.

Austrian ideas and solutions have the potential to play a significant role in solving the problems associated with rapid change and instability in society, science, and the economy – but not as a consequence of the COVID Pandemic. We aim to proactively contribute to a better digital future that is available to all of humanity.

“Everything is reflected in our extensive program during the six months of the exhibit. We already have scheduled over 100 activities, including cultural performances, business-to-business delegations, discussions, youth workshops, tourism activities, and our National Day on November 19th, to mention a few.

Instead of physically touring Austria on an exploratory mission, the strikingly designed Austrian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will provide visitors with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the Central European country through all of their senses when they step into the spectacularly shaped pavilion from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.”

Throughout the six-month Expo term, the Austrian Pavilion will organize a variety of business activities aimed at connecting Austrian and Arabian Gulf firms to build new trade and economic links for mutual gain.

Two permanent exhibitions in the pavilion will appeal to visitors' senses by beautifully expressing Austria's numerous contributions to a better, more sustainable world through a series of compiled installations, while also demonstrating different aspects of Austrian research, development, and innovation in the form of Made in Austria products. Ars Electronica Solutions and büro Wien organized the exhibitions, and the design studio bleed created the visuals.

The Austrian Pavilion that will be situated in the Opportunity District at Expo 2020 would be a meeting place for innovative and creative minds, and a location where visitors can engage through a range of events. Characteristics like pristine nature, region-specific culture, food security and regional goods, smart technology, sustainability, and mindful deceleration are visibly dominating people's awareness, and the Austrian Pavilion portrays this zeitgeist well.

Several stations in the pavilion will encourage visitors to directly experience Austria thematically – through aspects embracing the sensations of seeing, hearing, smelling, and feeling – coupled with an interactive technological component.

The Austrian Pavilion, designed by Viennese architectural company querkraft, is made up of 38 geometrically organized white cone towers inspired by traditional Arabian wind towers and constructed of precast concrete parts of varied heights.

The entire construction exemplifies innovative use of Arabian traditional construction traditions and modern Austrian innovation that integrates people, technology, and the environment is a wonderful illustration of sustainability, using natural construction materials and a clever, low-tech approach. The customary clay plaster utilized in the interior of the pavilion creates a pollutant-free, balanced indoor environment.

The pavilion's outside construction has been finished, with inside construction set to begin in mid-July 2021. The pavilion's sustainability would be maintained after the Expo since the building will be refurbished and utilized.
