The Ministry of Economy (MoE) revealed that the country's Intellectual Property (IP) industry had considerable growth in the number of works even during the fiscal year 2020, with a 70% increase over the previous year.

That's the latest in a long line of achievements for the UAE, solidifying its global status as a desired destination and incubator for innovators, intellectuals, literary, and cultural thinkers, producers, and entrepreneurs.

As per the Ministry, the overall number of intellectual works has reached 24,317 so far. It achieved its greatest level ever in 2020, with 2,772 intellectual works registered, whereas the year 2019 witnessed the registration of 1,632 works, representing a 32% increase over 2018.

The overall number of works registered in 2018 was 1,233, while the overall number of intellectual projects registered since the beginning of 2021 is 900. The development of the IP sector reflects the UAE's efficiency and the directives of its leadership in improving the country's intellectual property environment, creative thinking, and innovation, to enhance the UAE's contribution to the worldwide innovation landscape by highlighting the UAE's unique cultural identity.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of intellectual property works in developing and maintaining a facilitating environment for innovation. By expanding on the Ministry's efforts in this area, it helps to the construction of a structure that allows the interchange and sharing of emerging technologies throughout the world. This will be accomplished in collaboration with the country's relevant authorities, which will include the development of legislation governing the IP segment, its numerous activities, and fields, following global best practices.

The Ministry is constantly updating the regulatory and legal frameworks. It aspires to establish an atmosphere contributing to the development and prosperity of intellectual, literary, and scientific undertakings, recognizing the importance of these areas in strengthening the UAE's global image and expanding its contributions to the national economy.

The Ministry of the Environment, represented by the Department of Trademarks and Intellectual Works, provides all tools to ensure the prosperity of original idea, culture, art, and literature, and their rights of ownership. It seeks to conserve and defend the intellectual property in general, and intellectual works specifically.

All unique creations or initiatives in the realms of literature, arts, sciences, innovation, culture, and other related areas are considered intellectual works.

The Ministry continues to make unwavering efforts to stimulate innovation and safeguard talent and has developed several bilateral and international deals designed to empower talent and assuring complete protection for the rights of inventors, authors, and artists.

The Ministry of Economy is still eager to streamline its operations and offer its services through various online channels and digital channels.

Written works, drawings, music compositions, derivative works, audio works, photography works, lectures, engineering designs, software, and smart apps are all examples of intellectual works.

This variation represents the amount of responsibility entrusted to intellectual work management, the significance of its role in governing intellectual works in all facets, establishing the country's IP and innovation ecosystem, and guaranteeing an environment that draws creators and pioneers of thought, culture, and art from all around the world, and increasing their confidence in the country's judicial system.

The Trademarks and Intellectual Works Department's competencies usually involve receiving and checking up on requests for registration of IP rights; depositing works of natural and legal individuals, maintaining a database of intellectual works; coordinating with Arab and international institutions and authorities concerned with IP; and reporting back on complaints, cases, and legal disputes associated with intellectual works.
