The capital of the United Arab Emirates plans to deliver billions of vaccine doses.

Abu Dhabi is attempting to establish itself as a pharmaceutical center. At a virtual event on Monday, Abu Dhabi Ports Chairman Falah Mohammed Al Ahbabi said, "Our aim for the future is to make Abu Dhabi a pharmaceutical center and a platform for life sciences. We are expanding our airport space and other facilities so that we can undergo the processes to meet our goal of distributing billions of vaccine doses.”

These remarks come after the United Arab Emirates, whose capital is Abu Dhabi, became the first country in the US-allied Gulf to establish a coronavirus vaccine production facility. It enhances its efforts to become a strategic supply hub for the Middle East and beyond.

Sinopharm CNBG and Abu Dhabi-based G42 revealed on Sunday that a plant is scheduled to open this year. It will be capable of generating up to 200 million doses per year. Peng Xiao, the CEO of G42 Group, later told Bloomberg that the organization is in discussion with more than 20 countries in the region "who are genuinely interested in obtaining the vaccine."

According to Al Ahbabi, Abu Dhabi Ports will supply 18 billion vaccine doses to a population of 3.5 billion people. The company is a member of the Hope Consortium. It is a logistics conglomerate with a distribution capability of more than six billion doses.
