The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (Taqa) have made an agreement to build the utility facility for TA'ZIZ, the new world-scale chemicals production hub and globally competitive industrial ecosystem currently under construction in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE. This partnership brings together two of Abu Dhabi's industrial heavyweights, Taqa and Adnoc, to strengthen the desirability of TA'ZIZ projects and boost the value offer for investors.
TA'ZIZ will boost the UAE's total economic development and industrial diversification with starting chemical production scheduled for 2025. There are possibilities for both domestic and foreign investors to engage along the value chain, comprising light manufacturing and services. As per the provisions of the utility facility contract, Adnoc and Taqa will collaborate to provide electricity, steam, cooling, demineralized, and wastewater services to support chemical operations inside the TA'ZIZ environment.
“Adnoc's partnership with Taqa marks the next milestone in the growth of TA'ZIZ, as we strive to establish a globally competitive industrial ecosystem and a very appealing and competitive investor value proposition,” said Khaleefa Al Mheiri, Acting CEO of TA'ZIZ. We are well-positioned to further reinforce our reputation as a global-scale chemicals and industrial centre and a top location for foreign direct investment, leveraging technology to further develop the UAE's advanced industrial base, congratulations to the partnership between Adnoc and Taqa and related enabling investments in TA'ZIZ.”
“We aim forward to cooperating with Adnoc on such a significant project for Abu Dhabi which will serve a diversity of industries, including both local and international market players,” said Farid Al Awlaqi, Executive Director of Generation at Taqa Group. Being able to supply such essential services for TA'ZIZ is at the heart of what Taqa does for a fully integrated utility firm located in Abu Dhabi. This initiative, in terms of supporting crucial infrastructure development in our domestic market, promotes the Emirate's and the UAE's economic foresight.”
TA'ZIZ will help Ruwais improve its manufacturing and supply chain activities. Manufacturers would set up shop in the TA'ZIZ Light Industrial Zone, which is next to the TA'ZIZ Industrial Chemicals Zone, and use TA'ZIZ chemicals to create value-added goods for local and worldwide markets. To address the increased demand for services in the Ruwais industrial sector, suppliers will assemble in the TA'ZIZ Industrial Services Zone. TA'ZIZ has made huge progress since its inception in November 2020. Land and maritime studies have already been done as part of the site's development. Local and international investors have expressed strong interest in prospects throughout the whole ecosystem and value chain, and contracts with the first round of investors are approaching completion.
Contracts for the initial stages of development for the TA'ZIZ site have been awarded, and construction has already begun. This comprises completed geotechnical and topographical studies, a maritime bathymetric analysis, and health, protection, and environmental impact assessments. The studies will allow civil engineering work to prepare the TA'ZIZ site for building, and for digging for a completely new port complex.
Tenders have been awarded for the Front-End Engineering and Design (Pre-EED/FEED) of the seven TA'ZIZ chemicals derivatives projects. Final investment decisions for the projects, and the awarding of relevant EPC contracts, are scheduled for 2022.
TA'ZIZ benefits from excellent synergies with Adnoc's combined downstream and industry assets for feedstock’s and services, and favorable sea, land, and air logistics and transport linkages. The TA'ZIZ site is close to the Ruwais Industrial Complex and benefits from a fortunate location there at the intersection of east-west trade flows and routes to the UAE's target markets, with such a third of the world's population approachable in four hours by air or short sailing distances. Ruwais has been well-positioned to keep growing and thriving because of the flow of families looking to create careers and lives in what is now a lively, very appealing residential neighborhood.
Last Monday, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company revealed plans to build a world-scale ‘blue' ammonia manufacturing facility in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Adnoc is also an early leader in the developing hydrogen sector, pushing the UAE's leadership in developing local and international hydrogen value chains while still adding to the UAE's economic growth and diversification.
The complex, which is in the design stage, would be built within the new TA'ZIZ industrial ecosystem and chemicals centre in Ruwais.
