The AI-powered matrimony app Betterhalf.ai has secured $3 million in a pre-series A investment. The business was a part of the Y Combinator W21 batch, and the investment was led by venture capital companies S2 Capital and Quiet Capital, and also prominent angel investors Kunal Shah and Samvit Ramadurgam.

The cash will be used to expand user engagement on the app, expand monetizing capabilities, and promote product finding through organic channels, as per the company.

Betterhalf.ai previously received a $2.3 million seed round from Y Combinator, Tribe Capital, Nurture Ventures, and Saurabh Garg, Founder/CBO of No broker, and Shailesh Rao, Former MD of Google India and Former Partner of TPG Capital.

Betterhalf.ai has successfully risen to $5.2 million in three years of commercial operations with the present investment.

Betterhalf.ai, which thrives mostly on fact that it is India's first and only matrimony app without any of the direct participation of parents, provides a premium pool of working professionals from over 25,000 firms in India. Unlike traditional matrimonial applications, it is based on behavioral matchmaking criteria - compatibility match based on likes, dislikes, and interests.

Presently, the app has over a million match-making and a thousand weddings amongst the 700,000 urban millennial users. With elaborate business planning, the app generates $75,000 in monthly revenue and is expanding at a rate of 30% per month.

Rahul Namdev, an MIT-educated AI specialist, and Pawan Gupta, a serial entrepreneur, created it in 2016. The software is free to download on both iOS and Android devices.

“The conclusion of this round looking to follow Y Combinator Demo Day is a signal of the investors' trust in the preparedness of 100 million urban Indians for a new era matrimonial app and helps to move the firm from $1m run rate to $5m run rate for our next Series A round,” said Pawan Gupta, Co-founder of Betterhalf.ai.

By the end of 2021, the firm aims to have reached one million users.
