According to an Egyptian foreign ministry press announcement, Saudi Arabia and Egypt have emphasized the requirement of preventing further escalation and reducing the tensions in the Gaza Strip.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan and his Egyptian colleague Sameh Shoukry spoke on the phone on Saturday about the accelerated developments in the Palestinian territories, notably in the Gaza Strip, as part of the two ministries' collaboration on attempts to cope with the situation.

During the phone conversation, the two ministers discussed possible solutions to the problem in attempt to reestablish tranquility.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, they urged the world community to challenge Israel's harsh policies against the Palestinian people, and also their devotion towards the international rules and resolutions.

They also decided to further continue cooperation and discussion with all parties in the longer run so that they can put a stop to the military escalation in the Gaza Strip and avoid the situation from degrading into a full-fledged conflict, which would have serious consequences for regional peace in the country.

The ministers emphasized the need of continuing peace negotiations as the only way to achieve a two-state solution while preserving the legitimate Palestinian rights to build an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

During the conversation, Prince Faisal was also informed on Egypt's current attempts with all parties involved to negotiate an urgent truce.
