Al-Nassr would be the first Saudi basketball team to participate in the Asian Champions Cup in 10 years

Al-Nassr club, the first Saudi basketball team will take part in Asian Champions Cup.

On Friday, the Riyadh-based Al-Nassr club defeated Shabab Ahli Dubai of the United Arab Emirates 114-111 in extra time in Dubai, progressing for the finals of the 40th Gulf Clubs Basketball Championship.

The nail-biting tournament, which concluded at 97-97 each in the initial time, required the additional time to determine the winners.

In the finals on Saturday, Al-Nassr would play the Kuwaiti Al-Kuwait squad, which has already qualified for the Asian Champions Cup.

With such a spot in the finals of the Gulf Clubs Basketball Championship, Al-Nassr will become the first team in ten years to qualify for the FIBA Asia Champions Cup in 2021.

Ittihad of Jeddah will be the last Saudi team to compete in the Asian Championship in the Philippines in 2011.

Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports, thanked the Saudi squad on Twitter for reaching the finals of the Gulf Clubs Basketball Championship and winning a spot in the Asian Championship.
