According to DPA, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has advised extreme care at the European Football Championship due to the dangerous Delta form of the coronavirus.

"It's wonderful that in Munich, for example, 14,000 fans may now attend again. However, whenever I see packed stadiums in other European countries, I am doubtful that this will be the appropriate answer to the current situation "She made the remarks ahead of a joint dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron in Berlin on Friday.

Macron is the chancellor's first foreign visitor to Berlin this year, following the end of the coronavirus outbreak in Germany.

Macron stated because he thought Euro organizers were being cautious. "Of course, we're in conversation with them to ensure the greatest possible conditions," he added.

"Our teams have taken the necessary preparations. The question for the final will be that of the fans."

Because of the Delta variation in London and associated travel regulations, there has been talked that UEFA may relocate the semifinals and final from London. The governing body of European football believes a deal can be achieved.

Germany and France's presidents have urged caution to avoid the spreading of a coronavirus strain which has caused Britain to postpone the scheduled easing of pandemic restrictions in England.

Merkel stated that while Germany now has a relatively low number of new COVID-19 infections, the "aggressive" Delta version might lead to an increase in new cases. "We cannot assume that the coronavirus is no longer a threat," Merkel told reporters in Berlin.

Macron said that it was essential to be cautious about the new strain and that the European Union will address how to better unify restrictions on travel during pandemic at an upcoming meeting, something that the EU has struggled to accomplish more than a year after the outbreak began.

Aside from the epidemic, the EU summit this week will also discuss foreign policy concerns like the EU's ties with Russia and Turkey, and the future of the bloc's shared defence and security strategy.
