Roger Federer is still undecided about competing in the Tokyo Olympics, stating on Saturday that he and his team will "reevaluate the scenario after Wimbledon."

Federer told reporters in a video conference from the All England Club ahead of the start of the grass-court Grand Slam tournament on Monday how the matters unfold over the next two weeks would impact his plans for the following few months.

“If I play extremely well or incredibly poorly here, I think it influences how everything may look for the summer,” he explained.

“However, I still think I'd want to go to the Olympics. “I'd like to participate in as many tournaments as possible.” But I guess we agreed to just get through Wimbledon, sit down as a group, and then figure out where we go on from there.”

Wimbledon concludes on July 11th. The Tokyo Games that were delayed by a year due to the coronavirus epidemic are scheduled to start on July 23.

Rafael Nadal, who has stated that his health needs some rest and heal, and Dominic Thiem, who just hurt his right wrist, will both be absent from Wimbledon and Japan.

Federer, who seems to have 20 Grand Slam championships, shares the men's record with Nadal. Federer has two Olympic medals for Switzerland: a silver in singles at the 2012 London Games, which were played at the All England Club, and a gold in doubles with Stan Wawrinka in the 2008 Beijing Games.

Federer's 40th birthday is coming up on Aug. 8, and he says it alters the equation when it comes to planning an itinerary.

“It was simpler in prior years,” Federer remarked. “At the present, issues are not quite as easy as they have been in the past. You have to be more selective as you get older. You can't play it all”.

Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia won the Eastbourne International on Saturday, winning her first championship in nearly two years with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Anett Kontaveit.

Former French Open champion Ostapenko, who is rated 43 in the world, was given a wildcard for the Wimbledon warm-up game and maybe a contender on the grass at SW19, and now she's a semi-finalist in 2018.

Kontaveit must have won their previous two meetings, but Ostapenko never looked back after blazing to a 5-1 lead in the opening set. In the second set, she just needed one break of serve to win her fourth tour title.

Angelique Kerber won her first match in three years to win the WTA Bad Homburg grass-court championship, offering her confidence a boost ahead of Wimbledon, which commences on Monday.

Kerber, a former world number one, defeated Czech Republic's Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 6-2 in the final on Saturday to claim her first championship since winning Wimbledon in 2018.

After losing two finals in 2019, this is Kerber's first tournament victory since defeating Serena Williams in Wimbledon to capture her third Grand Slam championship.

“It means a great deal to me right now. That's also my surface, I felt comfortable on grass, and I'm just glad to have eventually won a tournament again,” said Kerber, who was applauded by her family in the spectators. It's even better to be able to accomplish all of this in front of my friends and family.”

In a related event, Ashleigh Barty would wear a special outfit on Centre Court on Tuesday to honor her fellow indigenous Australian Evonne Goolagong Cawley, who achieved her first Wimbledon title 50 years ago.

Barty stated that she had asked Cawley whether it was alright to draw inspiration from the 1971 Wimbledon and French Open champion's "iconic scallop dress."

Barty expressed hope that her clothing will have the same influence on the "upcoming generation of indigenous youth" as Cawley's had on her.

“It's a tremendously significant milestone for a majority of Australians, but especially for indigenous Australians,” Barty said of Cawley's triumph's 50th anniversary.

“I believe this is a one-of-a-kind one. It's a dream come true for me to be able to wear an ensemble influenced by Evonne's renowned scallop dress. I wanted to ensure she would Be ok with it. I needed to make sure she was okay before we began working on my recreation of her legendary gown. I called her and inquired. “She was overjoyed.”
