The pandemic scenario in India compelled the Indian Cricket Board to relocate this year's Twenty20 World Cup to the United Arab Emirates.

The BCCI stated that it has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) of its decision to conduct the game in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in October and November.

The BCCI's President, Sourav Ganguly, announced that now the ICC has been officially informed of the intention to relocate the prestigious tournament to the UAE. Sourav confirmed that they are looking into the specific details.

The matches will be held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, according to BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla. Some qualifiers may be held in Oman before matches in the UAE, according to the BCCI VP.

Because of the COVID-19 issue in India, the ICC gave the BCCI until the end of June to decide on the host country for the T20 showpiece tournament.

Previously, the IPL was forced to halt in May owing to an increase of COVID-19 cases in India, after certain players tested positive as cases continued to increase in the country. The remaining IPL matches will also be played in the UAE ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Lately, the PSL 6, which had come to a standstill due to an outbreak of coronavirus cases in Pakistan's bio-secure bubble, had also been successfully concluded in Abu Dhabi, as organizers finally agreed to shift the rest of the matches to the UAE, which is now a safe haven for organizing sporting events throughout the ongoing pandemic.
