Abu Dhabi deploys scanners to detect possible Covid-19 cases

Princess Tarfa

The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis, and Disasters Committee has authorized a trial programme employing advanced scanners to identify Covid-19 cases, as part of an attempt to further improve public health and safety by utilising cutting-edge technology.

The new cutting-edge scanners will supplement existing preventative measures while making no modifications to existing regulations.

The technology examines for suspected Covid-19 infection (without recording) and delivers rapid findings. It functions at a distance and is useful for larger number of screening, such as at public entrances in many locations.

The scanners would be utilized at access points to the emirate, the entrance to certain public areas on Yas Island, and at specified spots to enter or depart the Musaffah region during the pilot period.

If indeed the scanner detects that a person is not contaminated, they are allowed to enter. If a person is detected as possibly infected by the scanner, a PCR test must be performed within 24 hours. All PCR testing relating to red findings are free of charge.
