According to Iran's semi-official news outlet Tasnim, a massive fire has overtaken an oil refinery in the southern portion of the Iranian capital Tehran.

According to local media sources, there have been no injuries thus far.

As per local media, the Tondguyan refinery's activities were halted while firemen attempted to extinguish the fire.

"The fire was caused by a leak in a liquid gas pipeline at the plant," Mansour Darajati, the head of Tehran's crisis management department, said state television.

He went on to say that the cause of the fire would be investigated.

Thus according to Iran's official television, Shaker Khafaii, the chairman of the Tehran Oil Refining Co, which operates the refinery, dismissed all ideas of sabotage.

Ambulances and firemen were deployed to the location, according to Iranian media, and dense plumes of black smoke could be seen above the refinery from different parts of Tehran, as per television.

The refinery fire started just hours after Iran's largest navy ship, the Kharg, caught huge fire and sank in the Gulf of Oman.
