Oscars red carpet glamour expected to returns with a bang

What are the Oscars without the red carpet?

After a year in which the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of in-person activities and substituted them with actors on Zoom, often at home in hooded sweatshirts and pajamas, celebrity viewers are looking forward to seeing celebrities step out in show-stopping outfits on the entertainment industry's greatest event on Sunday.

"Red carpets are an important aspect of academy awards. We saw a lot of yoga pants and tie-dye sweatshirts, and that was a great deal of fun. But I'm getting Zoom boredom and want it to live on the television on a red carpet in real trousers and real stiletto heels "said Zoe Ruderman, People magazine's digital head.

Organizers have attempted to temper expectations of the usual three-hour, 900-foot (270-meter)-long red carpet packed with 100 photographers, TV crews, and cheering crowds that follows the Academy Award show.

"It's not a typical red carpet," said Stacey Sher, one of the show's creators, last week. "It's a very small red carpet."

But, at the very least, it won't be a Zoom case with that so "waist-up" clothing. Instead, after being evaluated for COVID-19, nominees and presenters will gather at the Art Deco Union Station in downtown Los Angeles before the event, and through satellite links to locations across the world isn't just the fashion that creates red carpets such an important – and much-missed – component of awards ceremonies.

FACE-TO-FACE

Celebrities are split on how much the lack of red carpets has been a huge relief. Some actors and singers have appeared for photographs at recent events, such as the BAFTAS and the Grammys, but not always at the ceremony itself.

"Occasionally, those red carpets are not mostly for the outfits and the glitz," British actor and singer Cynthia Erivo clarified. "Because we move around so much, it's sometimes the best way you get to see people."

Riz Ahmed, a first-time best actor nominee for his performance as a deaf drummer in "Sound of Metal," has indicated a preference for interviewing people digitally rather than hosting traditional gatherings and dinners. "You're just sitting there in your comfy clothes, putting on a jacket, and you're going. I think it has a calming and sobering impact on me. Despite the spending hours trying to perfect one's look, red carpets still delight”. Riz Ahmed shared.

Whether it's exciting or not, Katherine Heigl, a former "Grey's Anatomy" star, is delighted to be off the red carpet.
