30% of sports federations’ board members consists of women

Saudi women consists of 30% of members on the boards of directors of sports federations, as per Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal, who is now the head of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee (SAOC).

He stated during the quarterly government communication reporting here on Sunday that now the sports sector's contribution to GDP increased from $640 million to $1.7 billion in two years, a 170 percent rise.

The minister highlighted the fact that sports enthusiasts in the Kingdom climbed from 13% to 19%. “The number of sports groups has climbed to 450, with 200 of them being women's groups.”

“For the first time, the foundation of private sports financing businesses has been permitted for 13 sports clubs and federations,” he stated.

In terms of international events held by the Kingdom, he stated that the Formula One race would be held in Saudi Arabia during the first time in December, and also that the 2023 World Martial Arts Games would be held in Saudi Arabia.
