On Tuesday, Lille coach Christophe Galtier told L'Equipe that he was resigning two days after winning the Ligue 1 title.
“I just believe that my time here seems to be up,” he told French sports daily.
Galtier, who was hired in 2017, claims to have had employment offers from teams such as Nice and Lyon in France, and Napoli in Serie A.
The 54-year-old Marseille native claimed he was leaving to avoid "getting into a habit."
“I feel like this is the time,” he remarked.
Galtier oversaw a comeback in Lille's fortunes after taking over for Marcelo Bielsa in the middle of the 2017-18 season.
Lille narrowly averted relegation. During his first full season, they finished second to Paris Saint-Germain.
Lille was fourth when the season was cut short due to the coronavirus epidemic last season, and they were named champions on Sunday for the first time since 2011.
They overcame Angers 2-1 on the last day of the 2020/2021 season to finish one goal ahead of PSG.
The former Saint-Etienne coach hopes to sign with his new team towards the end of the week.
Lille's fourth Ligue 1 title broke PSG's three-year winning streak in the league, which Mauricio Pochettino seized over during the season.
Despite having the world's two most significant players in Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, PSG now has to settle for second best to their more modest northern neighbors.
During the season, Lille grabbed four points away from PSG by defeating them in Paris.
Galtier has a year remaining on his agreement and is leaving the club, which is encountering an unpredictable future following off-the-field turbulence during the winter when owner Gerard Lopez was required to sell due to financial difficulties.
Lille recently lost Luis Campos, the Portuguese super-scout who helped build the Monaco club that defeated PSG in the 2017 Champions League final.
Galtier attributed Lille's success to these two individuals in November, saying, "The president found capital to invest in players discovered by a guy of extraordinary competence."
Amongst these players brought by Campos were Canadian striker Jonathan David and experienced Turkish striker Burak Yilmaz, both of whom scored in the title-clinching victory on Sunday.
Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan received an AC Milan physical on Tuesday as he gets ready to join the Serie A team.
Following the physical, Maignan, who assisted Lille in winning the French league title on Sunday, has been shown on Italian television visiting the AC Milan club's offices.
As per a club insider, a formal confirmation of the move was expected "within 48 hours."
As per Italian media, Milan would pay Lille 15 million euros (18.4 million dollars) for France's third-choice goalkeeper, who might sign a three to a five-year contract.
Gianluigi Donnarumma, an Italian international who has debuted for Milan this season, is nearing the conclusion of his deal.
Milan, who might come back to the Champions League after a seven-year break, seems to have stepped up their chase of Maignan after months of discussions with Donnarumma's agent Mino Raiola fell through.
Raiola discussions were suspended a few weeks ago.
Maignan, 25, was born in Cayenne, French Guyana, and has one French cap. He has been picked for the Euros.
