Pakistan won the fourth and final Twenty20 international against South Africa at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday by three wickets with one ball to leave. It gave the visitors a 3-1 series victory.

Pakistan appeared to be on their way to victory when they achieved 92 for one in the 10th over after bowling South Africa out for 144 on a normally high-scoring pitch.

After Fakhar Zaman was out for a hard-hit 60 off 34 balls, six wickets fell for 27 runs before Mohammad Nawaz secured the victory with a six off the penultimate pitch. Pakistan achieved a clean sweep of four successful series against South Africa this season with a 3-1 series victory.

In Pakistan, they won the Test and T20 series, and in South Africa, they won a one-day and T20 series. Earlier, Faheem Ashraf, a Pakistan medium-pace bowler, had ignited a South African collapse. South Africa, who were put in to bat after failing in the toss, were bowled out for 144 on what is typically a high-scoring pitch, thanks to Ashraf's three wickets.

After the initial loss of Aiden Markram, South Africa had achieved 73 for one when Ashraf had Janneman Malan caught at mid-off for 33 in the ninth over. South African captain Heinrich Klaasen and George Linde were both driven out by Ashraf. He bowled 4 successive overs without admitting a boundary.

Hasan Ali and Haris Rauf, both fast bowlers, took three for 40 and two for 18. South Africa's highest scorer was Rassie van der Dussen, who had 52 points off 36 balls.

On the same field two days ago Pakistan beat a 204-run mark with nine wickets and two overs to lose. Babar Azam, who scored 122 in that run chase, called an intact team, while South Africa made two adjustments. Batsman Pite van Biljon and left-arm fast bowler Beuran Hendricks were substituted by all-rounder Wiaan Mulder and left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin.

Pakistan had already won the toss and chose to bowl first. Heinrich Klaasen, the South African captain, had said that he would have chosen to bowl. “It appears to be a nice wicket once more,” he said.

Brief scores:

South Africa 144 in 19.3 overs (H. van der Dussen 52, J. Malan 33; Faheem Ashraf 3-17)

Pakistan 149-7 in 19.5 overs (Fakhar Zaman 60; S. Magala 2-33).
