The Ithra Contemporary Art Exhibition has begun

Princess Tarfa

The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) has organized a contemporary art exhibition that brings together a diverse group of artists and art enthusiasts.

The display, which started on Wednesday, would be on display for nine months. It is amongst the most significant art fairs in Ithra, with a large selection of visual trickery portrayed through a vibrant array of modern art pieces.

The exhibition, which includes artworks from a variety of modern plastic artists, promotes reflection because the artworks and optical illusions produce a visual initial impression devoid of actual significance at first look.

This will also allow visitors to interact with and focus on the creative material, and evoke the meanings of the presented visual arts.

The exhibition has 26 artworks, including 16 pieces from the Ithra collection, four works created specifically for the exhibition, and six works acquired from several other foreign artists and exhibits.

Among the most renowned pieces is Saudi artist Walaa Fadl's "Light atop Light," which is called after Surat Al-Nur from the Holy Qur'an.

Carsten Höller's "Six Moving Doors" – six equidistant mirror-covered moving doors that function automatically — would also be on exhibit.

Aisha Khaled would also take part with her piece "Water Seeks Thirst," which uses gold-plated steel textiles and pins to express the artist's personal connection with Saudi Arabia.

Artist Robert Irwin would also be present with his piece "South by Southwest," which represents the artist's continuous explorations with the perceptive capacities of fluorescent lighting, along with complementing responses to color, shadow, and space.

A range of events, seminars, debates, and discussions will be organized on the margins of the exhibition to examine individual interpretations of the presented artworks.
