During the pandemic, Saudi Arabia consolidates the cultural movement

Princess Tarfa

The Kingdom stated that it is going to continue to strengthen the existence of culture in all of its forms in many walks of life, in accord with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

It started on the route of the National Cultural Strategy with solid and profound confidence in the necessity of research and studies for the sustainable advancement of the cultural sector.

This was said during the Kingdom's statement on Friday at the UN General Assembly's high-level gathering on culture and sustainable growth which was conducted in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Sarah Ashour, the Chair of the Second Committee in the Kingdom's permanent delegation to the UN, delivered the speech, highlighting the fact that the Kingdom's Ministry of Culture was eager to provide a full report on the "state of culture" yearly.

This is to scientifically observe and build on the representations of its cultural transitions and advancements, to assess the factors of progress in attaining the goals and developing future transformation plans.

“Provided that the year 2020 saw an increase in digitization to combat the effects of coronavirus, such as transforming cultural activities into virtual projects, the Ministry of Culture in my country has chosen the theme of “digitizing culture” as the title of the assessment on the “Status of culture in the Kingdom” for the year 2020, to shed light on the subject “digitization culture,” she said.

Ashour put a spotlight on a variety of initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Culture in this respect during the preventative isolation phase, under the slogan "Culture in Isolation," which covered a wide range of cultural sectors, including "Literature of Solitude."

Approximately 95,000 individuals registered on the site "Literature of Solitude" in its early days, whereas the "Playwrights Competition" read approximately 149,000 pages in its first week. The ministry also aided the Saudi film industry by providing an electronic link to a Saudi movie on internet platforms every day of the precautionary isolation period.
