Revealing the Emirati artist behind the ‘Power of Words’ sculptures displayed at Qasr Al Watan

Three sculptural masterpieces from the 'Power of Words' series can be found at Qasr Al Watan. They are exclusive to the National Palace. These art pieces, which come in a variety of colors and sizes, are a true testimony to classical Arabian artistry and craftsmanship.

The Power of Words installations, constructed and designed by renowned Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej, is part of the UAE's late founding father's legacy. An interlaced inscription from an Arabic quote attributed to the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan appears on each sculpture.

“Wealth is not money or oil; wealth is people, and it is useless if not committed to serving the community,” says the original Power of Words sculpture, which can be found within the Palace. Sunlight glints off the metallic surfaces of two silver sculptures in the courtyard, reflecting two more of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan's quotes, in addition to the magnificent piece of art that sits within Qasr Al Watan. The two sculptures are miniature versions of the Power of Words sculpture that can be seen in the Palace's halls.

“Science and history should walk side by side,” says the first quote. Man should document his past and preserve it for future generations by using science so that others can learn from it and understand what their forefathers accomplished.” The second quote reads, "Our people's education is the best wealth." We are grateful of our educated people because education and science would pave the way for a brighter future.”

The original Power of Words sculpture, which is on display within the Palace, weighs six tonnes. The two other sculptures in the Gardens weigh four tonnes. The sculptures were created so that tourists could enter and see the works of art from a different angle.
