The Journey of Humanity' painting sold for Dhs227 million

Princess Tarfa

Sacha Jafri's groundbreaking painting "The Journey of Humanity," has been sold for Dhs227,757,000 ($62 million). It was sold more than double the sum it was intended to raise for children around the world most affected by the pandemic.

Andre Abdoune bought the painting at a charity auction held on March 22, 2021 at Atlantis, The Palm.

The painting was supposed to be divided into 70 lots, but thanks to Abdoune's investment, it will be kept intact for all of humanity.

"It had always been a dream of mine to do something extraordinary for my children and father. When I spoke with Sacha, I realised how much effort and affection he put into this painting. I've always wanted to support children. I didn't have much to eat when I was a kid. Now I'm going to eat something. We must all take action." Andre Abdoune says.

Every dollar has the potential to make a difference. We can give these children and their future hope if we work together. I'd also like to express my gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, who is always eager to assist children. The UAE points us in the right direction, and we must pursue it. It is possible to do the unthinkable. I'd like to stress that this is just the beginning for 'Humanity Driven.'

"The Path of Humanity" is part of Sacha Jafri's charitable initiative "Humanity Driven," which was launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. It was done in collaboration with Dubai Cares and Atlantis, The Palm, under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence.

Jafri worked on the painting for seven months, 20 hours a day, at Atlantis, The Palm.

"This is a pivotal point in my life as an artist and humanitarian for more than 25 years. I had a vision at the start of my "Humanity Inspired" project to reconnect our fractured earth through the hearts, minds, and souls of the world's children. I have a feeling that, thanks to Andre, we are one step closer to achieving this tonight." Sacha Jafri conveyed.

The "Brushes Piece," an artwork created by Jafri of the original brushes used in the creation of the record-breaking masterpiece, as well as a framed piece. "Clothing Worn by the Artist," featuring clothing worn by the artist during the painstaking seven-month-long process inside the ballroom of Atlantis, were also sold during the auction.

"We are immensely proud of "The Journey of Humanity's" accomplishment. Sacha Jafri's initiative is a powerful testimony to the power of human cooperation, and it will serve as a constant reminder of the results we can achieve when we come together with a common vision for a better world "Dubai Cares' Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors, Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, said.

The funds raised during the historic auction will be distributed to "Humanity Inspired's" to Unicef, Unesco, The Global Gift Foundation, and Dubai Cares, for various programmes addressing issues such as children's digital access to communication and learning, as well as healthcare and sanitation.

A collection of the record-breaking artwork is on display at the Leila Heller Gallery, the UAE's biggest, on Alserkal Avenue in Dubai.
