The pathway to better thinking is Education

Princess Tarfa

“Education is not training for life; it is life itself,” said American philosopher John Dewey on education.

This demonstrates the overall significance of education. It not only makes us more knowledgeable, but it also makes us a better human being. This planet is full of unenlightened people who stink of bigotry and racism. They are indeed the ones, who spread the seeds of discord with their shallow, bigoted views; who can only stoke communal resentment, whose contempt towards other religions fuels discrimination. The path to enlightenment is paved with education; the cornerstone can be difficult, but it is firm, and it transforms you into a sparkling emblem of civilization instead of an illiterate who is obnoxious and annoying.

Education is the path to success, for both individual and societal growth.

At the Majlis Mohamed Bin Zayed Ramadan Series, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation emphasized the importance of this.

Sheikh Abdullah shared his thoughts on the topic, saying, "There is no question that education lately is not only an important necessity for finding employment or learning a specific talent, but it is also essential to achieve a dynamic life that contributes to enhancing our aspirations." It broadens our perception of one another and humanity, and also our thirst for knowledge.”

Professor John Sexton, President Emeritus of New York University Abu Dhabi, spoke about how education can bring out the best in each person. This, he said, is achieved in a relatively standardized manner through primary and secondary education, but a person's individuality is recognized through education outside the school when they either go to college or university or – if this type of education is not appropriate for them – when they pursue vocational training to learn particular skills.

“Each pupil is a marvelous gift from God, and he or she has capabilities that must be developed through education.” “I appreciate the fact that the United Arab Emirates and Abu Dhabi have concentrated on the value of continuous learning because continuous learning is truly the activation of the gift of life,” he said. And it makes a lovely symphony for all of us, composed of all the piano sounds we come to play.”

The emotional side of education is just as vital as the availability of skills, and teachers' well-being should be prioritized.

All enhancements must be win-win, which implies that you must develop competence and academic skills while simultaneously caring for social, mental learning, and overall well-being.

In this regard, the home is the first "classroom," and parents should teach their children the values of compassion and reverence for all religions, which the UAE has endorsed.

Education policy and innovation aren't just necessary; they are also a priority, according to Reem Bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of the Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau.

“As the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and the Chairperson of the global philanthropic organization Dubai Cares, I have a deep professional interest in the development of education, knowledge creation, retention, and transfer,” she added.

For decades, we have raised deeply pressing concerns about the traditional educational systems we learned from our forefathers. Then, in the course of 2020, we learned our lesson when such systems proved woefully inadequate to meet the demands of the emerging reality wherein we found ourselves. We must continually respond to developments and aspire to improve not just our own but also the lives of others.
