Covid is more prone to spread indoors because of maskless contact: Study

Princess Tarfa

Mask-less interactions can lead to the spread of COVID indoors.

As per a study, interacting without masks in tight places increases the chance of transmitting SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, to others.

The study, which has been published in the Journal of Internal Medicine, shows how different sized respiratory droplets generated when speaking cover a size continuum and can contain varying amounts of virus.

The most dangerous ones are intermediate-sized droplets that stay suspended in the air for minutes and can be carried over long distances by convective air currents.

Researchers have maintained that Covid-19 was not airborne since the outbreak began last year. However, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced in May that contact to respiratory fluids – extremely tiny respiratory droplets and aerosol particles – present in the environment and carrying viruses is the primary cause of Covid-19 infection.

The Indian government also stated in an alert that aerosol and droplets are important routes of viral transmission.

It went on to explain that the aerosol may transfer up to ten meters from the infected person, and also that the aerosol can fall within two meters of the infected person and can move up to ten meters via the air.

According to the advice, individuals should continue to use masks, either twin masks or an N95 mask, to avoid it.

According to the report, the use of cross ventilation and exhaust fans will help slow down the progression of this disease.
