5 simple habits that will give you an enhanced long-term health

Princess Tarfa

Our hectic schedules do not allow us to get up at the crack of dawn to run a half marathon or have the afternoon available to leisurely attend a yoga class, as celebrities and influencers do. Many of us, with our jobs and family obligations, are unable to engage in these health-improving activities.

Although it can be difficult to live a healthy lifestyle daily, infusing it with micro-habits — short, sustainability practices that don’t take up a lot of time — can help you feel a lot more in command of your life.

The below are five habits that take less than five minutes to implement but make a huge difference:

1. Journaling for 5 minutes

Journaling has many wonderful advantages, but it is particularly noteworthy for its impact on depression and its potential to help us positively reframe our feelings.

It is not enough to spill your heart out and fill the pages to enjoy the rewards. Simply taking a few moments to jot down a few reflections will help you check in on yourself and progress on personal achievements and goals.

2. Hydrotherapy of cold water

Taking a cold shower may not be everyone's cuppa tea, though according to fitness guru Wim Hof aka The Iceman, enduring the chill would provide us with more stamina, more sleep, and increased concentration.

Turning down the heat in your morning shower can also help you relax from an intensive exercise session by reducing body discomfort, soreness, and swelling.

3. De-clutter one item

The start of the summer season makes us desperately seek safe and quiet spaces to lounge in, but cleaning your home doesn't have to be a full-day job. Focusing on tiny-de-cluttering is a far more practical solution to healthy lifestyles.

Simply set aside five minutes per day to go through one item, whether it's a wardrobe cabinet, a food cabinet, or a box of discarded clothes.

4. Make your bed

Going home to an unmade bed is the ultimate demotivator. Taking a few moments to clean your bedroom sets the right tone for the start of the day and prepares you to complete the remaining items on your to-do list.

According to a Sleep Foundation survey, people who make their beds in the morning are 19% more likely to get a good night's rest every day.

5. Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning

Drinking water in the morning is for much more than simply being hydrated. According to research, it will improve digestion, keep your skin clean, and increase your concentration levels. While it might be appealing to reach for the coffee maker first thing in the morning, taking the first five minutes of the day to drink a glass of water will give your body a jump start in keeping your fluids satisfied during the day.
