Al-Balad mayor: Staff, vendors, and customers did not follow social-distance guidelines as instructed.

Reports from Riyadh: The Bab Sharif Central Market in Jeddah was ordered to be closed on Thursday by the Jeddah Municipality. It happened when a large number of individuals roaming at the market failed to enforce necessary precautionary steps to prevent the spreading of coronavirus (COVID-19) during the critical times of the pandemic.

Bassel Felemban, the mayor of Al-Balad, said field teams uncovered numerous violations. A lot of market-goers were not wearing a mask. Various staff, vendors, and shoppers throughout the market were not following social-distancing procedures.

The city of Jeddah has almost shut down 121 businesses for violating COVID-19 regulations during these challenging times.

The municipality conducted overall 4,477 inspection tours of shopping centres and different facilities. They found 257 violations of safety precautions related to over populated areas and repeated failure to use the Tawakkalna software appropriately.

The Jeddah Municipality continues to encourage its residents to immediately notify any possible COVID-19 violations to the 940 call centre number. This is an important measure to help protect public health by avoiding transmission of the virus.
