Covid latest: UAE makes PCR tests compulsory; Prayer updates of Friday; new Green list

Every 14 days, employees in five sectors across the UAE will have to take a Covid PCR test. These includes, Hotels, restaurants, transportation, and wellness, as well as social and personal service industries like laundries and beauty and hair salons. The new law will take effect on March 28.

According to a statement from health authorities, Abu Dhabi has made PCR testing mandatory for those employed in critical sectors and industries in the private sector every two weeks. The tests are free of cost. This requirement is part of a broader initiative to stop Covid-19. For unvaccinated government sector employees in the Capital, weekly PCR tests are compulsory.

Men will be compensated in women's prayer halls at large mosques in Sharjah for Friday prayers, as women's prayer halls remain locked, reports shared on Monday. The new decision will start from March 26.

In the last 24 hours, the UAE has given out 75,957 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. The country's Ministry of Health and Prevention stated that 7.37 million doses have been provided.

On Monday, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention announced 1,871 new coronavirus cases, 2,144 recoveries, and 7 deaths. 185,531 supplementary methods were used to identify the new cases. Over 35.5 million tests have been performed till date. The total number of cases in the UAE as of March 22 was 442,226, with 424,840 recoveries. The death toll rises to 1,445.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism has released a revised list of countries on the "green list". Passengers arriving from these countries will be excluded from mandatory quarantine measures and will only be expected to undergo PCR testing at the airport after landing in Abu Dhabi.

Members of the public have been cooperative in documenting Covid breaches, according to Sharjah Police. The public can contact the police by dialling 901, downloading the Sharjah Police app ‘Haris,' or sending an email to covid19@shjpolice.gov.ae. According to a top police official, these networks are used to collect different reports of violations, and are punished accordingly. He claims that their smart app helps users to track violations and crimes on transit.

The Covid-19 vaccination booth at Al Maryah Island's Galleria Mall is now available to all residents. Mubadala Health's onsite booth is open to the public from Sunday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., is located near Waitrose on the Concourse level.  It provides free vaccinations with the UAE government-approved Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine. To maintain social distancing, the centre is only open by appointment and an eligibility survey will be conducted. 

The UAE is ensuring everyone receives Covid-19 vaccines. Doctors are urging UAE citizens to take the vaccine without fear of the slight side effects that may arise in certain cases. Pain, redness, swelling, and itching at the vaccination site were all common side effects. Fever, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cough, allergy, muscle pain, joint pains, and lethargy are all possible side effects and they subside in a day or two.

The first batch of young Emirati hope makers graduated from the Hope Makers Development Program today. Covid-19 provided live technical training as well as hands-on field experience in humanitarian and recovery efforts. The first graduating class consisted of 28 Emirati men and women who proposed five main initiatives aimed at shaping the future of humanitarian work and innovating new responses to crises and challenges.

Infections with Covid-19 are also on the rise in 81 countries. The modern coronavirus has been linked to at least 123,420,000 infections and 2,843,000 deaths worldwide so far. Vaccination against the coronavirus has started in 139 countries, with 448,076,000 doses of the vaccine administered. Gibraltar leads the world in vaccination coverage, with 79 % receiving vaccines.
