Facial ID used by Government to register customers under 'UAE Pass' app

As part of its strategy to introduce the first secure digital national ID for people and residents, the UAE government announced that biometric face recognition (facial ID) will be used to register customers in the "UAE Pass" application.

The "UAE Pass" app is the country's first national digital identity and signature solution, allowing users to authenticate themselves to government service providers across all emirates using their smartphones. It allows users to digitally sign documents with a high degree of authentication. The app helps the UAE government achieve its goals of digitalization and paperless transfers.

By enabling community members to access digital government services, the UAE Government, which leads the world in implementing biometric facial recognition technology, aims to make community members' lives easier, faster, and more effective. Currently, 1.38 million users have registered for the UAE Pass app, with 628,000 of them checking accounts.

The adoption of advanced concepts, tools, and proactive services that benefit all divisions of the community, according to Mohamed Bin Taliah, Chief of Government Services at the UAE Government, reflects the UAE Government's sustainable approach and reflects the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to adopt serviceability.

The use of facial recognition technology in the registration process of the Digital ID app, according to Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Head of the UAE Digital Government and Director-General of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, is a crucial step toward the deployment of new technologies based on artificial intelligence (AI) to create a digital lifestyle in the UAE. He also praised the project's teams' efforts.

The Digital ID application uses biometric face detection to establish a validated profile in less than five minutes without the need to visit a federal service center. Previously, the registration process took 20 minutes and required registered members to visit government support centers.

Customers can use the app to safely access all government and quasi-government websites and apps, as well as take advantage of over 6,000 programs offered by over 130 government, quasi-government, state, and local agencies. The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has released a new version of a revised version of the e-refund framework for federal entities' service fees and transactions. The revised version has new features that make refunding payments for all federal agencies easier and faster.

The launch of the revised edition, according to Saeed Rashid Al Yateem, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry's Resources and Budget Sector, is part of the ministry's efforts to provide comprehensive and coordinated financial services that satisfy customers. This highlights the UAE's leading financial system on a regional and global scale, as well as the country's place on global competition indices.

Customers can now login to the latest version of the e-refund framework using a protected unified code obtained from the ministry's website. Customers may use the MoF website or their digital ID to log in to the service (UAE PASS). The new system also includes a "dispute management" function that allows consumers to check the status of a request based on the request number after it has been completed.
