Hungarian pastry shop presents coronavirus vaccine-themed desserts

A Hungarian pastry shop has launched a line of COVID-19 vaccine-themed sweet mousses as a lighthearted solution to anxiety over the various forms of vaccines and the consequences of having one or more of them. The Sulyan family's patisserie in the tiny town of Veresegyhaz, northeast of Budapest, offers a variety of layered mousses with multicolored jelly toppings, served in small cups with decorated syringes on top.

Each jelly color reflects a different COVID-19 vaccine: citrus yellow for AstraZeneca and a much darker yellow for Sinopharm, matcha green for Pfizer, orange for Sputnik V, and vibrant blue for Moderna.

The Sulyan family's tasty offers come at a time when millions of Hungarians are being requested to go through a screening process to sign up for vaccination while questioning the validity of the many vaccinations being carried out. People are not offered a variety of vaccines but instead are given whatever is accessible by their family doctor.

Thousands of people have entered Facebook help groups in recent weeks to communicate with those who have undergone the same shots like them. "People have a preference here, there is no enrollment, there are no adverse effects," said Sulyan patisserie confectioner Katalin Benko, emphasizing that the goal was not to lobby for or against vaccination or in support of one shot over another. "Anyone should try these because the only potential possible consequence is a little joy on their face," she said, gently spreading orange jelly on top of some mousses.
