Mandatory health insurance for members of worker’s family: Saudi

Princess Tarfa

The Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI) General Secretariat stressed that private-sector employers must have insurance coverage for their employees and all members of their families who are protected by the health insurance scheme.

“Health care coverage should not be restricted to a specific number of family members. Wives and all male children up to the age of 25 are covered by the health care scheme, as are single and non-working daughters, according to the council.

It also stated that through an insurance provider, a health insurance policy must be provided that covers the minimum benefits limits. According to CCHI, the insurance policy covers the probationary period, making the private sector employee liable for coverage from the first day of work.

It stated that the new employer is responsible for providing insurance coverage in the case of a transition of service and that this coverage will begin on the day the worker transfers the service to him.

The council also stated that if both partners work in the private sector, the children are eligible for insurance coverage by the husband's employer.

Employees in the private sector are not obligated to spend any money for the cost of health care for any member of their family who is covered by the policy.
