Princess Diana's wedding gown is indeed one of the objects on display at Kensington Palace as part of a recent temporary exhibition showcasing royal design. The Emanuel-designed gown has a tailored bodice superimposed with panels of vintage Carrickmacross lace that originally belonged to Queen Mary, the groom's great-grandmother, and a dazzling 25-foot sequin-encrusted train that has been the longest in royal history. The dress is on loan from the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex, and it will be seen for the first time in 25 years.

A unique remaining toile for Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother's 1937 coronation gown will also be on display as part of Royal Style in the Making, which will open on June 3 in the newly preserved Orangery.

The show, which includes never-before-seen pieces from a few of the twentieth-most century's celebrated royal couturiers, and gowns and tailoring designed for three generations of royal ladies aim to explore the unusual relationships between a clothing designer and royal customer.

The exhibition will also include original drawings, cloth swatches, and previously unpublished images from the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, an inventory of over 10,000 pieces of fashion and style heritage cared for by Historic Royal Palaces.

“Our summer show at Kensington Palace will shed a spotlight on a few of the finest talents in British architecture, whose art has been influential in shaping the artistic identity of the royal family over the twentieth century,” said Matthew Storey, exhibition curator at Historic Royal Palaces.

“We'll be investigating how each designer's and client's relationship worked and showing the mechanism behind the production of a few of the most significant couture creations in royal history,” he added.

If the Princess of Wales' wedding gown is certain to be a major focus, Storey promises "some genuine surprises up our sleeve for fashion lovers." The show will take place in the days leading up to the launch of a statue of Princess Diana of what should have been her 60th birthday.

To commemorate the twentieth anniversary of her death, Prince Harry and Prince William commissioned the statue, which will be located in Kensington Palace's Sunken Garden that was one of her favorite spots on the palace premises.

Prince Harry is scheduled to return to the United Kingdom for the announcement on July 1st, but he can fly alone because his wife Meghan is due to give birth to their first child in the summer.
